Every year the Norfolk County Teachers Association awards one educator and one layperson with special recognition. The WEA has the opportunity to nominate a candidate for each category. All of the local association's nominees will be honored at a banquet on June 3, 2014. Please give some thought to these awards and reply to this email with your suggestions. The Executive Board will consider members' suggestions at our April 1st meeting.
The Honor Award is for an educator who has shown significant educational service, community service, and association service. If you know a member who has gone beyond the typical expectations in these areas, please reply with details. If your nominee has initiated a project or activity please describe its benefits to the community or school.
The School Community Service Award is for a layperson who has demonstrated service to public education. When nominating someone please describe the qualities you would like to commend. If the person is a school employee, how have they gone above and beyond their job duties?
Hard to believe 2 years has passed, and your WEA officer positions are up for election. An election committee has been established to oversee the nomination process as well as the election day voting on May 6th. Nominations for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer must be submitted in writing to the election committee member in your building. Members who work in the larger buildings may find it easier to email an officer nomination email@example.com. Please note, nominations submitted this way will be forwarded to a committee member.
The nominations will close, and be formally presented, at our April 15th Annual Meeting. The current officers are more than willing to discuss the duties and time commitments of the various positions, so don't be shy!
Finally, our current By Laws -- which can be reviewed on our website http://weymoutheducators.weebly.com -- place term limits on officer positions. On the agenda for the April meeting is voting on the last few By Law changes proposed by the By Law committee. At this time we will entertain a motion to review the term limit restriction. Please think carefully about the pros and cons of Article X section 2, before we ratify the By Laws.
